Play your part in industry transformation to address the UK construction skills crisis

As demonstrated over years, the UK construction skills crisis will not be solved by policy statements or short term interventions. It will be solved when industry steps directly into education.

That’s why Health Delivery Partnership (HDP), Programme Delivery Partner for the New Hospital Programme, is collaborating with award-winning social enterprise Class Of Your Own on a targeted teacher training initiative designed to tackle the construction skills shortage at source.

The pilot will run across the North and North West of England, linked directly to live hospital projects at Leighton in Crewe, North Manchester and Airedale, ensuring teaching is grounded in current practice.

That’s why Health Delivery Partnership (HDP), Programme Delivery Partner for the New Hospital Programme, is collaborating with award-winning social enterprise Class Of Your Own on a targeted teacher training initiative designed to tackle the construction skills shortage at source.

We are now looking for experienced professionals who want to put their knowledge to work by teaching the next generation of infrastructure experts.

Class Of Your Own’s BEST (Built Environment Specialist Trainers) Programme brings real world construction expertise into classrooms by supporting industry professionals to become Further Education teachers. Delivered over 18 weeks through a blended model that fits around working lives, the programme combines practical training, mentoring and supported teaching experience. The pilot will run across the North and North West of England, linked directly to live hospital projects at Leighton in Crewe, North Manchester and Airedale, ensuring teaching is grounded in current practice.

By September 2026, the programme aims to have qualified a new cohort of FE educators, expanding capacity across post 16 provision while strengthening engagement with KS3 and KS4 learners. Once proven, the model will scale into other priority regions, supporting nationally significant infrastructure including new hospitals and projects such as Sizewell C.

This initiative goes beyond skills supply. It strengthens education capacity, enriches the national curriculum with real world learning, and creates clear, credible pathways into construction careers. It also opens up new second career opportunities for experienced professionals, including those who wish to return to work after having a family, ex-military, and those aged 50 plus, whose expertise is too valuable to lose.

We are asking industry to help make this work. Share the opportunity through your networks and consider whether your experience could shape the future workforce through teaching as part of this exciting opportunity.

To find out more or to get involved, contact alison@classofyourown.com or joe.hobbins@macegroup.com.

This is a practical, industry led response to a national challenge, rooted in live projects, real teaching and long term impact.

We look forward to hearing from you!
